The "Whirl" series is based on images from the 1940s and 1950s found in the Archive of Swing Dancing. A joyful rebellion of movement after many tumultuous years, swing dancing represented a new sense of freedom for many. "These pieces are a nod to my wistful feelings and sentimental longing for crowded bars and loud dance halls," Fey muses.
Amber Fey is a Montreal-based artist who uses photography and graphic design to "find elegance in the ordinary." She describes her work as having "many stylistic quirks, depicted with simple shapes and compositions."
