Celebrating the mystery of the natural world, the concept for "The Road" came to Stephane Fontaine while hiking in the Adirondack Mountains. "This piece translates all the nooks and crannies surrounding every step I took on the microscopic level while also giving the appearance of an overhead view like a map," he explains. Applying layers of cement, grease pencil and acrylics with washes of red, grey and black, Fontaine captures the beauty and contrast of an eroding terrain. Presented in a matte black frame that can be hung vertically or horizontally.
Stephane Fontaine is an Ontario-based artist who favors exploring different materials, mediums and subjects, never settling on a single style. "The only thing that matters to me is being completely and utterly in the present moment," he says. "This is the essence of creativity."
