Ancient relics and the civilizations that once revered them serve as inspiration for "Relique." To create the textured surface, Stephane Fontaine applies cement and sand gel to the canvas with layers of acrylic and gesso for a matte finish. Muted variations in tone and texture "mimic the weathered stone and tarnished metals of archeological finds, drawing the viewer into a tactile dialogue with history," the artist explains. Presented in an FSC®-certified wood frame with a white finish. CB2 exclusive.

Stephane Fontaine is an Ontario-based artist who favors exploring different materials, mediums and subjects, never settling on a single style. "The only thing that matters to me is being completely and utterly in the present moment," he says. "This is the essence of creativity."
