A winter evening's walk—snow-drenched, crisp and silent—inspired "Open," a meditation on the absence of sound and color. "The all-enveloping silence paired perfectly with being visually encompassed by the moonlight dancing on the snow," recalls artist Stephane Fontaine. Heavily textured layering of white paint represents the serenity of snowfall, while a gentle application of darker hues suggests a horizon and landscape bathed in white light.
Artist Stephane Fontaine favors exploring different materials, mediums and subjects, never settling on a single style. His work often has a calming, organic feel, thanks to the nature-centric viewpoint from his studio in eastern Ontario. "The only thing that matters to me is being completely and utterly in the present moment," he says. "This is the essence of creativity; this is active meditation."
