Swirls of matte black gesso suggest movement in "Minas," a work inspired by Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti. "I like the idea that he saw motion as a succession of stillness," says artist Patrick St. Germain, who customized a tool to shape the gesso into the desired form. Its texture and varying levels of opacity bring a kinetic energy to the canvas.
Patrick St. Germain is a Montreal-based artist who works mostly with acrylic paint, resin, metallics and pastels. He describes his style of art as primarily abstract, textural and complex. "I love to explore the grandeur of nature by weaving abstraction and landscape into my own personal visual language."
