Starting as a sketch of intersecting lines like a road map, "Interseca" is a study in balance and removal. Stephane Fontaine laid black paint and burnished gold foil on the canvas, filling in areas between the intersecting lines. He then applied white acrylic paint, building up a thickly textured ground and removing lines that were not integral to the composition. "It's mostly about balancing color, form and texture into a cohesive statement," explains the artist. Hangs in two orientations.
Stephane Fontaine is an Ontario-based artist who favors exploring different materials, mediums and subjects, never settling on a single style. "The only thing that matters to me is being completely and utterly in the present moment," he says. "This is the essence of creativity."
