An Easy, Elegant Entryway Makeover

How to stylishly transform even the smallest space into a welcoming place.

Your dream entryway is just a step away, and you don’t need a ton of square footage to make it feel warm and welcoming. Just take this corner of a room that we recently shot for a catalog, which brings together some of our favorite products in smart, stylish ways. To learn more, we asked our senior merchandising manager April Head to share her design secrets (spoiler alert: they’re really easy to copy!).
  1. No closet? Reach for a rack. “Not everyone is lucky enough to have a coat closet near their front door. When you don’t, you’ve got to find a place to put your coat somewhere, right? Our sleek peg coat rack can hold coats, bags, dog leashes, plus it’s light enough to be moved from space to space as your storage needs change.”
  2. Shelves add style without taking up space. “Empty walls just cry out for some attention. A great alternative to hanging wall art: storage shelves that show off your personal collections of pretty things. These a-frame shelves are minimal and look sharp in multiples.”
  3. Wall pockets work wonders, too. “These scope wall pockets are so multi-functional. You can store things inside them (mail, keys, etc.) as well as drape a scarf or dog leash around them. We hung a trio together because groups of three are more pleasant to the eye.”
  4. Seating will save you. “Our principle bench is simple in its design and offers a handy place to sit and pull your winter boots off and on—not to mention storage space underneath.”
  5. Polish it off with a pillow. “This flock pillow adds a playful graphic element to the entryway, and a soft reason to lean back and stay awhile.”
  6. Step in the right direction with a runner or rug. “Depending on your entry space, a runner can “lead” guests from your entryway into the rest of your home. Otherwise, an indoor doormat or small 2×3 rug works well. It’s nice to have something to step onto when you come inside, especially if you are removing your shoes.”
  7. Baskets keeps life more organized. “Handy for corralling just about anything—newspapers to recycle, house shoes, dog toys, your halloween candy stash—our digit baskets are a modern take on a rustic handwoven design. The matte black finish makes it perfect in this space.”
