Artist Edward View's "Apparition" evokes a dark mix of action and stillness. "I wanted to capture the chaos, contrast and motion of a cab ride at night, seeing the blur of signs and architecture pass by your window, with no distinct detail," he says. A backdrop of a city scene is created through black paint spread with sticks and scrap metal, while flashes of city lights are suggested by Conte crayon, pastel and charcoal.
Edward View is a Montreal-based multimedia artist who draws on architecture and urban landscapes to create his modern art. "I'm inspired by setting and place—the physical surroundings I find myself in," he says.
