With mysterious script-like forms that become increasingly abstract, "Magura" invites the viewer to interpret its abstract lettering. "It's unclear if the imagery you see is a form of language, hieroglyphics or primitive patterns in storytelling," says artist Steven Sabados. "It leaves the viewer with a sense of intrigue to decipher the encoded message." Acrylic and oil paints, along with antique glazes over silver leaf, give the piece dimension as well as a sense of mystery and history.
Steven Sabados is a Toronto-based artist who draws on layers of emotion, personal reflection and unique artisanal techniques to create his meditative works. "I like to interplay multiple forms of artistry—spray paint, chalk, oil, pastel, photography, silk screen—and layer them to create a rich collage."
