Where was your favorite place to live?
London, UK, which is why I have just bought a building plot at auction and will be designing my own home and moving back!! I love the energy of capitol cities, the mix of cultures, people, food. You just don’t get that in the country.
What’s your favorite room in your home?
The kitchen/dinning room. I designed the kitchen and extension and it is so open, with all sorts of interesting angles and quirky bits.
In your opinion, what is the best designed item of all time?
My favourite piece of furniture is the RAR rocker by Charles and Ray Eames. But other things are amazing, like paper clips! Wooden clothes pegs. So simple, so perfect.
What are your sources of inspiration?
I have no one source, everything I see will perforate through and effect how and what I design – I often can’t trace it.
What do you drive?
A Citroen C3 Pluriel. It is fantastic – it is the second I have had. The roof comes off completely, I can also use it as a small pick up and have had a large US style, side by side refrigerator in the back. I have even had a full sized table tennis table in the back. It is also like a sports car with the roof and side bars removed. Brilliant.
What one item do you wish you owned?
An original Eames RAR rocker with fibreglass seat
What are your interests outside of design?
Flying. I used to do a lot of paragliding (till I crashed and broke my back and everything else!) I have just taken up flying small planes.(and skiing)
What is your personal decorating style?
Everywhere white, and then the furniture, paintings accessories etc add the colour. Maybe the odd statement wall colour. I often include a lot of colour in my designs.
What’s your favorite possession?
A full sized plastic Silver Back gorilla who likes to move around my home.
What’s the best career advice you ever received? Ever gave?
Be enthusiastic. It overrides everything. And work hard. The best advice I ever received was ‘learn to fail quickly’.
