modern folklore. An exploration of a traditional Indian tribal art form called Gond, this nature-focused work is rooted in the "painted stories" of the Adivasi tribes, which were originally rendered on the mud walls of their dwellings as symbols of good fortune. Artist Dhavat observes: "Adivasi people live in jungles close to nature where daily life is closely interwoven with animals, trees, farming and natural forces. This proximity to nature in contrast to modernity and change inspired this work." Each is an original hand-drawn illustration, taking the artist up to three days to create.
dhavat. Based in Bhopal, India, the work of artist Dhavat is reflective of traditional Gond and Adivasi indigenous art. Working primarily in acrylic on canvas and handmade paper, his paintings express his belief that we are tied to nature, even in concrete-laden cities.
