overview

vivid memory. Cerca de Ahi is a bold depiction of the neighborhoods artist Karla Aguiñiga passed through on her way to school as a child in Tijuana, Mexico. Her colorful reflection draws together a vibrant community of homes with graphic dimension. Aguiñiga's original multimedia landscape was rendered with graphite, charcoal, color pencil, watercolor, gouache and soft pastels on paper, digitally replicated here on canvas.

karla aguiñiga Juxtaposing playful and controlled elements of real and fictional landscapes, Karla Aguiñiga bridges the old and new, modern and primitive, urban and rural in her art, Born in Tijuana, Mexico, the LA-based artist and educator describes her work as inventive, playful, dynamic, crystallized, graphic and colorful. Inspired by modernist painters and designers, Japanese printmaking, Native American and Mexican folklore, and children's art, Aguiñiga's art is a bright statement on social and political issues, such as urbanization, globalization and sustainability.
