under exposed. Handthrown stoneware shows the potter's skill with a bold two-tone dip. Rimmed rounds are partially glazed grey with earthy flecks of brown, stopping just short of the base to expose the rich brown tone of black clay.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Earthy, Durable Dishes for a Natural Look I bought a few pieces of each (salad plate, dinner plate and bowls) online a few months ago just to see what these would look like in person. Even my boyfriend who typically doesn't have strong opinions on apartment furnishings and dishware immediately feel for these and thought we should order a full set. Each plate is unique and has slight color variations, giving them an almost handmade, natural look. The plates are on the shallow side and the lip makes them perfect for larger meals; the bowls are the perfect size for a hearty bowl of soup. Other reviewers have noted that the bottom color is closer to brown than black, as described, and I would agree -- however, I actually like this better -- more earthy looking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful texture / color Bought a set of these bowls in store several months ago, the quality is exceptional. They look handmade and much more expensive than they were in the flesh!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Dinnerware I am so happy that I purchased these plates. They are so beautiful in person and such a great price! I had been searching for dinnerware that looked like vintage stone wear and this is exactly what I wanted. I put them in the dishwasher and have had no problems!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Description & Photo of color is misleading gorgeous - but definitely not black. Bottoms are very brown. If I would have know - I would't have purchased. I bought some matte black ceramic paint to cover up the brown bottoms - but would have preferred these to not turn into a DIY project. CB2 should update their photos & description. If you don't mind them being brown on the bottom you will be very happy with the look/qlty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Earthy chic This set is awesome. Although it wasn't made to stack perfectly, the set looks great in my unfinished loft. I only wish I had found these sooner!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Plates I had purchased four of the salad plates and liked them so much I went back for more. Good size (we use as 'dinner' plates) Like the raised sides. The warm grey glaze,as stated in the product description, was evenly done on my pieces. Considering a couple of bowls next.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Grey Plates They seem to be of fine quality but the color is very grey and not white. So as long as you are expecting a grey set of plates you will be happy. If you wanted something closer to white, as I did, you will be less happy. There is discoloration as well and not in an organic natural way. It looks like someone got sloppy with the glazing? IDK I am definitely disappointed and will not be keeping them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great design and durable I just bought a couple of these bowls. Love the look and they a very durable without being heavy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sturdy and modern. I received these about 8 months ago and they are great to look at but don't stack the best. They also get extremely hot in the microwave after just a minute or so. It's great that they are oven friendly but despite their beautiful design, I probably wouldn't get this particular set again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The (almost) perfect dining set! I had my eye on this set for months until deciding to go for it and couldn't be happier I did. I love the simplicity of the white and the earthy feel of the un-glazed bottom. So far these have held up very well and gotten tons of compliments! The only reason they don't get a full 5 stars from me is because they don't stack as well as other dishes (bowls don't nest and thick lip of plates is harder to fit into drying rack) - but this is not a deal breaker for me as I love the dishes otherwise.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from modern but rustic i like the weight and look of this set. they are a little more "earthy" looking than a lot of cb2's other dinnerware. the bowls are very deep.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THE LAST DISHES ILL EVER BUY! Ive been eying these dishes for about a year , totally worth the wait! rustic almostvintage the white glaze gives a modern feel. Warm a plate in the oven or nuke in the microwave. These dishes might just survive my teenager!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Quality Control I really like the design of the Black Clay Dinnerware, but unfortunately it seems that there was absolutely no quality control in their production. The majority of these pieces look like 'seconds' and would have been discarded or discounted by most retailers. Many of the plates I received were unevenly glazed, showing streaks and drips, while others had black flaws on the surface.Of the 12 pieces of dishware that I received, only 2 or 3 of were even acceptable. These dishes were made in China, and I realize with that comes a cost, but most of these plates look like they shouldn't have been allowed to leave the factory.CB2 Customer service was nice enough to send me a replacement set and they reassured me that the new dishes would be inspected before packing. But the second set that I received was just as bad as the first. I suppose that it’s possible I received 2 bad batches, but it seems unlikely that they would both be so flawed. It’s a shame, I really wanted to use these at home, but the production quality is very poor.
