how to measure
print pageprint page

It’s time to take out your tape measure and do a little quick math. Make sure that when your purchase gets to your home, that it can get into your home.

Room Dimensions. Does the piece work in the room?
We spec our dimensions in this order: WidthxDepthxHeight. Example: This sofa is 89"Wx40"Dx32"H. To help you decide if the piece fits the scale of the room, you might want to sketch it into a 1/4" graph paper drawing of the room along with other pieces that will be in the room. Or, tape newspaper together to create a true-to-size "footprint" of the piece, position it on the room floor, and imagine it 3-D.

Standard Dimensions. Will it work in the space I have planned?
Our published dimensions (e.g. 89"Wx40"Dx32"H) width x depth x height, will help you decide.

1) measure your entryways
Measure the heights (A) and widths (B) of any hallways and door accesses, as well as the entry clearance (C).

2) measure your furniture
A Customer Service associate or store associate will be glad to measure your furniture. Then see if these measurements allow enough room to clear your entryway measurements.

Sofas: Measure the width (A) and the diagonal depth (B)*. For bookcases, armoires, etc.: Measure the diagonal height at the widest point (A) and depth (B), and compare to your entryway measurements.

3) compare your entryway measurements with your furniture measurements
Now compare your measurements from (1) with your measurements from (2). If the entryway measurements allow enough clearance for the furniture measurements, you’re ready to order.

*To determine the diagonal depth of a sofa, place a straight edge from the highest point of the back frame (not including pillows) to the front of the arm. Then measure from the bottom rear corner of the sofa up to the point that bisects the straight edge. This last measurement is your diagonal depth.

The suggestions presented here are to be used as a guide to measurement and do not guarantee your furniture purchase will fit. Please consider every scenario and size constraint that may occur from our delivery truck to the item’s final room placement.
